Riddel Kurczaba
One of the world's leading petrochemical construction and engineering firms, Fluor Corporation centered its Canadian operations in Calgary, in the heart of oil-rich Alberta. Fluor tapped the local firm of Riddell Kurczaba to create its new headquarters building, a 220,000 square-foot facility whose design focused on flexibility and fostering team interaction. To articulate those principles, Riddell Kurczaba created a 10,000-square-foot atrium that serves as an open, informal, and versatile gathering place. Overlooking a landscaped courtyard, the building's dramatic, three-story windows allow the company's 1,200 local employees to feel like they are outside, even in the depths of winter. Oversize 12' x 37' motorized Nysan roller shades accentuate the room's scale and provide glare control while maintaining outward visibility. An innovative Nysan control system senses visible light transmission through the glazing assembly and adjusts the shades accordingly.
