GREEN FABRICS
Nowadays, building products are not only judged on their functional performance. Their material soundness is increasingly weighted. Hunter Douglas Architectural strongly believes in circular materials. The slats of our Venetian blinds consist of over 98% of recycled material. For our shading fabrics we increasingly look at recycled content and recyclability. Our functional fabrics portfolio incorporates an ever increasing share of very ‘green’ fabrics.
Overview
General Information
Material soundness
There are numerous approaches to assess the soundness of a material. At Hunter Douglas we consider several factors. Material health is a prime factor and looks at materials from a toxicity perspective. In addition we take great care to reduce the use of energy and process water in our production processes.
Circular
Recycling and re-use only make sense when materials are high quality and non-toxic. Our green fabrics have good material properties in terms of material health – no toxic constituents – and recyclability. Some of them are Cradle to Cradle certified.
Volatile Organic Compounds
Volatile organic compounds or VOCs for short are chemical substances that are released as a gas from a liquid or a solid. VOCs are varied and include both naturally occurring and man-made compounds. Some VOCs are harmful to our health, having compounding long-term effects. Our fabrics for interior use are all tested and certified for low VOC emissions.
