Described as "a beautiful glass tea cup" by Russian President Vladimir Putin upon its opening, the Moscow Music House has become one of the country's newest cultural expressions. Funded partially with government revenues from oil exports, the complex continues a rush of activity in projects for the performing arts. Moscow has seen numerous large construction and renovation projects at concert spaces and theaters in recent years. Designed by architect V. Krasilnikov, the Moscow Music Hall complex contains restaurant and retail spaces, administrative and rehearsal facilities, and a recording studio, in addition to three performance halls. Acoustical design of the two concert and one multi-purpose halls resulted in specification of metal ceilings from Hunter Douglas that enable exceptional sound performance and complement the interior design.
